« Last post by Plissken on January 29, 2022, 01:36:52 pm »I bought a Mongoose Malus fatbike back in 2015. I put a 1000 watt rear hub motor on it. I ride in traffic a lot so I put a remote controlled turn signal on, but it was very unreliable. I decided I wanted wired lights. It took a lot of research, nobody that I could find to ask knew how or even if it could be done. I ended up using a 48v>12v stepdown converter from a golf cart to get my 12v leads, and then it was just a matter of wiring everything up like a morotcycle. I built a box to put all the electronics in, and to mount the lights. I didn't like the box, it was too big and ugly, so I made a smaller box, and a smaller one, and a smaller one...
Then my bike brokedown. I had been neglecting things while I fussed over the electronics. Brakes were bad, I blew out a bearing, the front fork was bent from a crash and I had not replaced it yet...
I tore the whole things apart and rebuilt it. Got new front shocks, new brakes, I used high-speed sealed bearings designed for power tools. I put a new gear set on, and removed the derailure and replaced it with a chain tensioner. I replaced the rear hub motor with a mid drive. I removed the electronics box, and taught myself some basic metal fabrication, and integrated the electronics into the rack. I gave it a new paint job, new decals, a bluetooth stereo, new grips, changed every nut and bolt, new handlebars headset, a hidden killswitch, and alarm system. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]
